Marathon
Upkeep of any church building is a constant and usually expensive exercise. At Greetham, the church building is over 800 years old. It is only to be expected that the elements take their toll over so many years.
We have a marathon task. Not only the running costs of the church, but a roof in need of replacement. The cost is likely to be in the region of £40,000. Any help is appreciated and we have Friends of Greetham Church organising fund raising events to this end. In addition, our Church Secretary, Sylvia Bland nobly "volunteered" to run another half-marathon in 2010 for sponsorship in aid of the church roof. (See below for details)
Donations gratefully received
If you would like to make a donation to the church, it would be greatly appreciated, no matter how small. Please use the button below and indicate in the message box on the payment page if we can claim tax back on your donation (Gift Aid - it doesn't cost you anything, but you must be a tax payer).

Sylvia's Half-Marathon
It's taken 10 years but I am finally ready to run a half-marathon. I will be taking part in the Leicester Half Marathon on Sunday 10 October 2010 along with my brother, Andrew.
As my training involves running in every direction out and back into Greetham, my goal is always to make it back towards the landmark of the church steeple.
For this reason, I have decided to raise sponsorship in support of repairing the leaky church roof. The overall cost will be around £40,000 and while I don't expect to raise that amount myself, I hope you will join me in supporting this cause.
Thanks, Sylvia
Half Marathon Success!
Before she knew it, it was 9.15am on Sunday 10th October, and Sylvia was lining up with more than 3,000 others in Victoria Park to start the Leicester Half Marathon. To the strains of Chariots of Fire (cheesy, but true!) they were off, pounding the tarmac around the city. The temperature quickly rose as the sun came out, and after 12 miles of hard slog plenty of sweaty lycra clad specimens of all shapes and sizes rounded the bend into the pedestrianised city centre shopping streets to sparse applause from the assembled throng.
A personal best
Suddenly, Sylvia appeared and a shrill shreak of support arose from son, daughter, husband, sister in law and mini cousins. The "Come on Mummy!" banner was raised and the kids raced alongside her with emergency energy giving jelly babies. She was less than 2 miles from the finish but it was to be the hardest 2 miles of the run - a slow uphill trawl up the length of New Walk and back into the park. Thank goodness for the jelly babies! She made it and completed the run in 2 hours and 7 minutes - a personal best.

Thanks for your support
Many and sincere thanks to all those in Greetham and beyond, friends and family, who have offered messages of support and sponsorship. The final sponsorship amount is still under count and will be posted separately in a few days - it will all help us in our ongoing marathon task of raising funds to repair the church roof. You can still expect to see Sylvia over the next few months, almost at your every turn, at various points running around Greetham! Maybe one day she'll attempt a full marathon!
